New Stuff

Sizzle here, Today I wanted to share some cards that I have done in the last month.  We are finally settling into our new house and I am getting it together.  I forgot to take pictures of some of the cards I made and one of them got lost in the mail *gasp*.  So I have been trying to do better.  I also finished up a few more woodworking projects that I need to share (5) so I am behind but I am trying to catch up.

I really loved the look of these two cards.  They were fun to make.  

This one I inked the background from bottom to top  (Slate (CTMH), winter wisteria (PTI), amber rose (PTI), and melon berry (PTI).  I then embossed the dandelion stamp from Botanical Silhouettes.  My vision was sending wishes in the form of dandelions.  A brighter twist on a sympathy card.   

For this card I used Rosie Posie (PTI) and Say it with Style (PTI) , twine and pearls.  I wanted to use a modern, non-relastic color combo and this card is beautiful in person.  My photos don't do it justice.

PTI Make it Monday - Polaroid 2-step masking

This week's Papertrey Ink Make it Monday was to do a Polaroid masking. I have never tried this before so I wanted to do the same size as Nicole. Two of my lovely sisters are getting married this year so I thought I'd make a card with that occasion in mind. I decided to use the Love Birds stamp set. I thought the cages would be cute around the border.


The bird I stamped in Red but then added their tails in pick because they looked pretty funny without their tails. It was a good experiment. Because I had the birds together I added a tulle ruffle on the opposite side and also stitched around the two sides to create some balance.

Here is a close us of the ruffle. I love adding tulle to cards. I haven't seen anybody else do this but I think it adds a soft feminine touch. Sorry you can't really see the stitching. I pierced the holes and sewed it by hand.

Happy Father's Day

My dad always drove a blue slugbug when we were growing up and he loves music so that was my inspiration for this card I made for him this year. I am so not good at taking pictures of cards - if you have any advice let me know. I am not sure what setting to use....



To create this card I used the following PTI stamp sets: Fresh Alphabet, A little argyle, Enjoy the ride and Star prints.

Papertrey Ink June Blog Hop Challenge

This is my first time participating in a Blog Hop! I was inspired by the photo for the color palate and also the playful feel of the card. I felt I had to have something ruffled and found this perfect ruffly ribbon in my stash. I used Distress Inks as water color and cut the balloons out of water color paper.

Combining sets

Over the last few months I have become a big Papertrey ink fan. Here is a cards I have made recently with their stamp sets.

This one is a birthday card I make for my sister. I used three PTI stamp sets - butterfly dreams, text style 11 and Just the ticket. I love the text and the butterflies. They are a pefect pairing. I used the ticket to date the card so she could use it in a scrapbooking album of her birthday too. I also used Straight from the Nest cricut cart for the brown border strip.

thanks you notes

After having my baby - it was a girl!!- I needed a ton of thank you notes so i made a ton of 3x3 notes around the same design. I scored the background cardstock to give it a quilted look - you can't really tell from the picture - sorry. This part took a lot of time but the rest was just a die cut and stamp from papertrey ink - butterfly dreams (my favorite).

Here are some other ones I made after I ran out. I thought it was so cute to use the tuelle on the card. I've never seen that done before. If you have a big event coming up (wedding, baby, birthday etc) that you will need thank you card for try the 3x3 size. You can make them a lot faster and get a ton from one sheet of cardstock. You can make envelopes or just hand them out.

Welcome 2011

2011 is here and we have a lot going on this year. We have a wedding, a new baby coming and a milestone birthday. So hopefully we'll be able to share a few projects this year. Here are some cards I made semi-recently. This is a card I made for my brother-in-laws wedding but I never sent it. Terrible huh. I wonder if I still should but it was awhile a go now. I learned this technique for my favorite card making blog. Basically you cut a shape out of one piece of card stock and layer ribbon on the card base and then layer the shape over the ribbon. The stamps are from Papertrey ink.

This card is a card for a baby shower. I bought this cute bird stamp set from PTI (papertrey ink - little bitty bird) and wanted to test it out but I ended doing this right before the shower. Yikes. It turned out pretty good for being under a time crunch. I used watercolor to color in the stamped images and my cuttle bug for the embossed bottom half. The two scallop shapes I cut at 3.5 and 3 inches from the Straight from the Nest cartridge.

Here is a close up of the colored part. It isn't perfect but I don't think things have to be perfect to be cute. It is hard enough to find time to do something creative without worrying about things being perfect.

My goal this coming month is to make 10 birthday cards and 5 shower cards so I don't end up doing them a the last minute anymore.

Rainy Day card

We have had strange weather around here - rain all the time. I made this card for a friend I was trying to catch up with.

I tried some new things like using a word I made in Design Studio, stamp and rubon letter for the inside. Both cuts on the from were from A Child's Year cut at 2.5.

Quiet in the storm

Today has been a storm of letter writting to city officials and zoning commissions as I am trying to protect my neighborhood and my investment (my home) so today's post is going to be brief.

I thought I'd share yet another card I made. This one was for my wonderful mother-in-law for her birthday. I wanted to do something a little more mature and I always loved when people stamped with multiple colors so I tested it on these trees and birds:

I used a stamp by hero arts and inked it with green then rubbed off the ink on the birds and used a brush pen to color the birds blue.

At first it was just a brown background with the green strip but then I desided to add the scallop skirt to bring out a little more blue. Inside it reads happy birthday. I used a ruler when I stamped this time, it made a big difference.

Mothers card -NSD

Okay this is the other challenge I decided to do - a Mother's card.  This is what I came up with:

I used some of the stuff I bought from SEI last week.  I used happytape for the border.  Rub-ons for the i and u (making memories) and I covered a chipboard heart from making memories and wrapped it in string - like a hug.  I used a stamp for the border and stickers for the mother which I inked so they stood out a little more. 

National Scrapbook Day

Saturday was National Scrapbook Day so a lot of scrapbooking/cardmaking bloggers issued challenges and giveaways you could enter if you participated.  I participated and you have to enter submissions by tonight so I am posting today instead of tomorrow.  This is Sizzle btw.  So here are my submissions to the mypinkstamper NSD challenge.  I think I have to do them as two seperate posts so here is the "Hey Dad" card. 

I used Graphically Speaking cartridge for the background (4.5 inches) and the tag (1.75inches).  I used a silver pen for the SKU.  I cut the letters D.A.D. from the Harmony cuttlebug alphabet set and painted the letters white.  I use spray on adhesive to adhere the chipboard. 

Happy Birthday -

It was KKs birthday last week so we visited her this weekend and I whipped up a little card (yeah right took me forever!).  I loved it.  It is a lot cuter in person then in these pictures.  It looked a lot like her personality, I thought.  Remember that piece of chipboard I cut with my cuttlebug when I was testing my cricut vs the cuttlebug for cutting chipboard.  Well I finally used it!

There it is.  I painted it blue, covered it with paper which I cut to size with a craft knife.  I sanded around the edges to smooth it out.  Then I added a rub on.  Tied it with crochet thred (clearance $1 for 350 yards).  I wrapped the thread around- crossed it and taped it on the inside of the card. 

I used a poka dot background stamp from Martha Stewarts line- it tore when I peeled it off and was stucked to another stamp so I am not impressed with her stamps.  I tried to make it work but it wasn't perfect.  Grrr. 

I stamped the back of the card with red ink.  I cut birthday using the STAMPED cartridge which they are retiring.  sad.  I am glad I have it.  I used smooth and shorty.  I cut them on adhesive back mat paper so they went on as stickers.  They happy is another rub on. 

I used a punch on the border piece and rounded the corners. 

I like it most because to me it looks like KK.  I debated doing a black and white card because that is her thing but as Tim Gunn on project runway would stay - you have to stay true to yourself even when you are designing for someone else.  I am a color girl - no black and white for me!
