Yum, Yum Board

I spent a lot of time the last few days wondering what I was going to do for my magnet board project. The biggest problem was deciding which room I was making it for. I always wanted one from my kitchen especially after losing the Spudnut recipe this Christmas! After fighting myself - thinking to do one for one of the kids instead, I decided to stick with the kitchen.

Since my magnet board will be for recipes - I titled it yum, yum, yum.  I cut all the letters from my Opposites Attract cricut cartridge at 2 inches. Here are close-ups. 

I had to do a boy and a girl chef so here they are.  I made the boy have pokie hair since my boys always do :)

These I cut from Everyday paper dolls at 4.5 inches.  They turned out so cute!  Don't you think?

I cut a cork tile I bought at Walmart in the craft section for the bottom.  The idea was to write what we would be having each day.  I found these little journaling blocks I had from Heidi Swapp.  I bought these so long ago, I am so glad they came in handy.  I would love to make there erasable - would contact paper do that? 

I love this picture because it shows what the Elmer's trick did.  I ended up using stain afterwards and it made a HUGE difference.  I did it after I had all the letters on so things got a little messy.  Make sure you do yours BEFORE you dress it up!

Another learn from my mistake moment:  I tried to use the spray Craft Bond glue on the ribbon - it spotted it so don't do that.  My favorite adhensive from ribbon is tacky tape.  You can get it at walmart for 3$, it is red.

 

I really want to seal this but I am terrified to use modpodge over it in case it ruins all my hard work.  Any suggestions?
